The role of the microbiome in oral and holistic health

Dr Megan Rossi will headline GBT Summit 2025 in London with a keynote speech on the role of the microbiome in oral and whole-body health.
Award-winning scientist from King’s College London, gut health and nutrition expert Dr Megan Rossi has been announced as the keynote speaker for the highly anticipated GBT Summit 2025, taking place in London at the Royal College of Physicians on 31 October, 2025. Her talk will explore a question of growing relevance: why should dental professionals care about the microbiome?
Rossi will lead the day with a powerful keynote talk, drawing on cutting-edge research to explain the deep connection between the oral and gut microbiomes. With clarity and evidence, she will show how dental professionals are uniquely placed to spot early signs of microbial imbalance and play a central role in prevention strategies that impact systemic health. The keynote promises to be both challenging and inspiring, urging clinicians to adopt a more holistic, future-facing view of patient care.
Immediately following Rossi’s keynote, Dr Victoria Sampson, a pioneering voice in oral-systemic health, will deliver a session on the oral microbiome. The two will then come together for an exclusive Q&A, giving delegates the rare opportunity to engage directly with two leading experts on the clinical relevance of the microbiome.
‘Practical and thought-provoking sessions’
The summit continues with a packed programme of practical and thought-provoking sessions. Professor Luigi Nibali will share the latest evidence and techniques in minimally invasive non-surgical periodontal therapy (MINST), followed by a Q&A hosted by Dr Devan Raindi. Later in the day, dental hygienist Anna Middleton will perform a full guided biofilm therapy treatment live on stage, demonstrating the GBT protocol step by step in real time.
In the afternoon, Dr Teki Sowdani and Claire Berry will lead a motivating session on empowering hygienists and therapists to elevate their voices and impact in clinical practice. The day concludes with a live panel debate featuring Faye Donald, Christina Chatfield, Ben Tighe and Laura Bailey, offering honest insight into career opportunities beyond the dental chair – from academia to entrepreneurship.
The GBT Summit is the premier event dedicated to the advancement of preventive dentistry and guided biofilm therapy. It provides a platform for education, inspiration, and community, welcoming dental professionals from across the UK and beyond to connect with global thought leaders and evidence-based best practice.
